THIS IS SPARTA

In the reading Writing in the 21st Century I particularly liked the example given of the power of Internet networking. Using Internet networking, AP test-takers organized writing “THIS IS SPARTA” on their exams then crossing it out. 300,000 students partook in the event. The reading also mentioned that younger people are showing notable skills at Internet networking. I agree that younger people can Internet network extremely well. A lot of it they do for social reasons, but Myspace and Facebook our powerful networking tools and mostly youth are using them.

  1. I agree with you and the reading that younger people are becoming proficient in internet networking. And Facebook and MySpace are great examples, even though they are used for social networking. I just read an article on BBC that facebook aparently is changing policies that will allow users to vote and be heard in future decisions with the company. The article claims it will give control to users.

Here is the site if you want to check it out:

It is amazing how a social networking thing on the internet can create so much controversy and uproar from users. Im not that familiar with how other internet networking works, but I believe this is a very new idea to allow the users control. And honestly kind of scary if you think of it....now that even 10 year olds can have facebook. Crazy stuff!

  2. I think this is a great thing to write about. The potential for individuals to organize is more powerful than I think even this example shows. This goes into what I wrote about in my "Feb 20" blog. It would not surprise me if MySpace and Facebook were used to organize people in countries where the majority of people are spread out in remote areas. Literacy can be brought to places where building schools is difficult, and democracy can flourish in places that are less free.
